Larmandier Bernier – Vieilles Vignes du Levant Grand-Cru Extra-Brut
Note Le Figaro : 95/100
Prix : 142 €

The 10 trends changing the world of champagne in 2024, according to Sarah Heller MW

Site-specificity continues to drive interest in grower champagne especially; this year’s lineup includes some of the pioneering cuvées like Larmandier-Bernier’s Vieille Vigne du Levant…

LARMANDIER BERNIER : ROBERT PARKER GREEN EMBLEM SINCE 2021
« It’s been 30 years now that Pierre and Sophie Larmandier have directed Larmandier-Bernier, which has been one of my favorite Champagne growers in the Côte des Blancs for many years. »
« As I’ve written before, Larmandier-Bernier numbers among the Côte de Blanc’s—and Champagne’s—finest estates. Based in Vertus, the Larmandier family farms organically and harvest late, vinifying the resulting wines in wood. The result is vinous, elegantly muscular Champagnes that are concentrated but precise. In a region that still produces far too many meager, brittle wines, Larmander-Bernier reminds us of the plenitude and texture of which great Champagne is capable. The range begins with two non-vintage Blanc de Blancs: Latitude, broad and charming; and Longitude, more chiseled and incisive. Next come three vintage cuvées: Vieille Vigne de Levant, from Cramant; Les Chemins d’Avize, from the eponymous village; and the Terre de Vertus. Two perfumed rosé de saignée cuvées complement the portfolio, now joined by small quantities of still red and white Côteaux Champenois. This year sees the release of a one-off Blanc de Noirs, produced from grapes deemed too ripe for rosé production in the 2015 vintage. »
2016 Larmandier-Bernier Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Terre de Vertus
94 / 100 The 2016 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Terre de Vertus unwinds in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, crisp yellow orchard fruit, brioche, honeycomb and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it’s bright and chiseled, with excellent depth at the core, racy acids and a long, penetrating finish. The Larmandier family invariably excel in cooler, more classic vintages, and this wine is no exception to that rule.
2015 Larmandier-Bernier Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Les Chemins d’Avize
94+ / 100 The 2015 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Les Chemins d’Avize opens in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, verbena, fresh pasty, vanilla pod and fresh herbs. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and chalky, with a vinous, rather concentrated profile and bright acids, it’s a little compact out of the gates but appears to be built to age with grace.
2015 Larmandier-Bernier Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs
92 / 100 Since the Larmandiers felt they had picked a touch too early to produce their emblematic rosé in the 2015 vintage, they elected instead to produce the 2015 Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs, an attractively pillowy, racy, medium to full-bodied Champagne redolent of freshly baked bread, orchard fruit and buttery pastry. Concluding with a long, chalky finish, it represents a fine success.
2014 Larmandier-Bernier Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant
95 /100 Disgorged in March 2023, the newly released 2014 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant unwinds in the glass with aromas of crisp stone fruit, freshly baked bread, white flowers, buttery pastry and clear honey. Full-bodied, pillowy and chiseled, with a sweet core of fruit, tangy acids and a penetrating, electric finish, it’s a terrific success.
2013 Larmandier-Bernier Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant
96+ /100 The Larmandier family excelled in this cooler vintage, so it’s unsurprising that the 2013 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant has turned out beautifully. Wafting from the glass with notes of crisp yellow orchard fruit, brioche, white flowers, oyster shell and honeycomb, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep, layered and incisive, with a tangy spine of acidity, terrific tension and a long, racy finish.
NV Larmandier-Bernier Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Longitude
92 / 100 Based on the 2020 vintage and disgorged in November 2022, the new release of Larmandier’s NV Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Longitude wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet citrus fruit, fresh pastry, green apple and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, its satiny attack segues into a racy, broad-shouldered mid-palate, concluding with a chalky finish.
NV Larmandier-Bernier Rosé de Saignée Premier Cru Extra Brut
91 /100 NV Rosé de Saignée Premier Cru Extra Brut was disgorged in November 2022 with two grams per liter dosage, and it’s one of the deepest, most saturated renditions of this cuvée to date. Offering up aromas of wild plums, sweet berries and petals, it’s medium to full-bodied, fleshy and vinous, with a deep core of fruit and a rich, decidedly gastronomic profile.
NV Larmandier-Bernier Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Latitude
90 /100 Based on the 2020 vintage and disgorged this year with three grams per liter dosage, the latest NV Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Latitude delivers aromas of crisp stone fruits, citrus oil, fresh herbs and warm bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, bright and fleshy palate that’s rich and generous in profile. As readers will remember, this cuvée takes its name from its provenance from parcels that share the same latitude: that’s to say, the south of Vertus, which routinely delivers a sunnier, rounder style.

Champagne Extra Brut Vieille Vigne du Levant 2008 Larmandier-Bernier
Valutazione: 99.5/100
Cramant, Cramant.
